3–35V 5A PWM DC Motor Speed Controller

The 3–35V 5A PWM Motor Speed Controller is a small, efficient module for controlling the speed of brushed DC motors using pulse‑width modulation (PWM). It supports a wide input range from 3 V to 35 V and can handle up to 5 A of load current, making it suitable for motors up to about 90 W when properly cooled.

Key Features

  • Wide input voltage: Works from DC 3 V to 35 V, compatible with 3.3 V, 5 V, 9 V, 12 V, 24 V systems.
  • Up to 5 A output current: Suitable for small and medium brushed DC motors up to around 90 W.
  • PWM speed control: Uses pulse‑width modulation for efficient, low‑loss speed regulation.
  • Adjustable duty cycle: 1–100 % duty cycle range for fine control from stop to full speed.
  • High PWM frequency: Typical PWM frequency around 10 kHz, reducing audible motor noise.
  • Built‑in potentiometer: On‑board knob to start/stop and adjust motor speed.
  • Compact module: Small PCB (around 30 mm × 24–26 mm) convenient for integration in enclosures.
  • Self‑resetting fuse (many variants): Over‑current protection using an onboard resettable fuse.

Applications

  • DC motor speed control: Fans, blowers, pumps, small conveyor belts, and DIY motor projects.
  • Robotics and RC projects: Speed control for small robot drive motors and mechanisms.
  • LED dimming: Brightness adjustment for high‑power DC LED strips within current limits.
  • DIY tools and equipment: Speed control for miniature drills, stirrers, and hobby tools.
  • Heater power control: Power regulation for low‑voltage DC heating elements.

Technical Specifications

Maximum Output Current 5 A (continuous, with adequate cooling and wiring)
Maximum Output Power Up to 90 W at higher voltages (for example 18 V × 5 A)
Standby / Quiescent Current Approx. 0.01–0.015 A in no‑load standby state
PWM Duty Cycle Range Approximately 1 % – 100 % adjustable by potentiometer
PWM Frequency Typically around 10 kHz (some variants up to 20 kHz)
Control Interface On‑board rotary potentiometer with built‑in on/off switch (module‑dependent)
Module Dimensions Approx. 30 mm × 24–26 mm × 14–19 mm (without knob)
Protection Features Resettable fuse / over‑current protection on many modules
Load Type Brushed DC motors and other DC loads within voltage and current ratings

Connections and Usage

  • Connect your DC power supply to the DC IN + and DC IN − terminals within the 3–35 V range.
  • Connect the motor or DC load to the MOTOR + and MOTOR − terminals, observing polarity.
  • Turn the knob clockwise to increase the PWM duty cycle and motor speed; turn fully counter‑clockwise to stop.
  • Always disconnect power before changing wiring or connecting a different motor.

Important Notes

  • Ensure the motor’s rated voltage and current do not exceed the module’s 3–35 V and 5 A limits.
  • Use adequate heat sinking and wiring for high currents near 5 A to avoid overheating and voltage drop.
  • This controller is designed for brushed DC motors; it is not suitable for brushless motors without a dedicated driver.
  • Reversing motor direction requires swapping motor leads or using an external H‑bridge / polarity reversal switch.
